Marilyn J. Rieken, age 81 of Broadwater, NE passed away Saturday, August 11, 2018 in Scottsbluff.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, August 18th, with Rosary Services at 10:00 prior to Mass. Both services will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dalton with Father C.P. Varghese officiating. Inurnment will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Cremation has been held. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Friday to sign Marilyn’s register book and drop off condolences for the family. Memorial contributions may be made in Marilyn’s name to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or the Dalton Fire Department. Marilyn Joan Rieken, the daughter of Emil Anthony and Helen Ruth (Reinhardt) Brinkhaus, was born on May 22, 1937 in Denver, CO. She graduated from Holy Family High School in 1955. Marilyn worked at Western Electric in Denver until 1970. Marilyn spent her free time visiting her cousin’s farm outside Sidney where she would meet her future husband.
On May 22, 1970 she married Donald Rieken in Denver, CO. They moved north of Dalton where she and Don raised their family on their farm. She began work for the Egging Company in 1985 as an Engineer Clerk and retired from the Egging Company in 1999 as Safety Director. In 2004 she and Don built their dream home on a hill south of where the family farmed. Marilyn was extremely fond of the horses and German Shepherds that she had throughout her life.
Marilyn is survived by (2) sons: Jim (Yvonne) Rieken, Joe (Katie) Rieken all of Dalton, (2) grandsons; Connor and Brennan of Dalton; (1) brother-in-law, Leonard Rieken of Sidney and numerous nephews and a niece
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband: Don Rieken, her parents, her brothers, Norman and Jerry Brinkhaus, brother-in-law, Melvin Wegner, sisters-in-law, Lucille Brinkhaus, Mildred Wegner, and Mary Ann Rieken, one nephew and one niece.
