MARIAN HIETT
Marian Hiett, 96, lifelong resident of Sidney, passed away on October 24, 2018. Memorial services will be held Thursday, November 1st at 2:00 P.M., in the United Methodist Church in Sidney with Father Mark Selvey and Pastor Corey Jenkins officiating. There will be a private burial at a later date. Friends may stop at the Gehrig Stitt Chapel on Wednesday, October 31st from 1:00 P.M., to 7:00 P.M. with family present from 5-7. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ Episcopal Church of Sidney or SRMC Hospice.
Marian was born south of Sidney on March 31, 1922 to Glenn and Lola (Raisty) Easterly. She graduated from Lorenzo High School in 1939. She married Robert Hiett on December 19, 1942. Marian followed Bob in his Army career as an Army Air Corps pilot. She always proudly wore his Army Air Corps Service Wings wherever she went. After Bob’s discharge, they returned to Sidney and farmed south of Sidney.
Marian was a devoted member of Christ Episcopal Church in Sidney where she served as the Church organist for over 40 years. Music was a very big part of her life. She was also very active in Eastern Star in Sidney where she was recently honored for 70 years of membership in the Chapter.
Marian spent numerous years working in the Cheyenne County Treasurer’s office where she wore many hats.
For many years, you could find Marian working at the Community Center, opening it up at 4:00 A.M. She was very diligent about keeping track of the early morning exercisers to be sure they didn’t miss a day. If they did, they would have to answer to her.
Marian loved her family and brightened every life she touched with her special smile and a mischievous sparkle in her eye.
Marian is survived by her son, Brian, and daughter Beth Fiegenschuh and son-in-love Rich. She is also survived by her grandchildren Mike Hiett and wife Jamie, Jodi (Hiett) Haack and husband Travis, Jeff Fiegenschuh, Amy (Fiegenschuh) Wagner and her 11 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband Bob, great-grandson Rylan, parents and one brother Jack.
