Winifred Marjorie "Teedle" (Thompson) Watchorn was born on January 28, 1923 in Dalton, the daughter of Neal and Louise M, (Baker) Thompson. She was raised on the Thompson homestead.
Her father, the Sheriff of Dalton, died of cancer when she was three years old. Her mother was expecting with Jimmy at the time. The family faced very difficult times, but because of her remarkable mother and hard work of her siblings and friends, they were able to save the farm. They walked from their home to church, school and to get groceries. The siblings who graduated from college, worked and helped the next child in line with living and college expenses. There were nine children in her family. Pete, Teedle and Jimmy were the three youngest. In 2008, Teedle and her brother, Jimmy Thompson, were honored as the two eldest active members of St. Mary's.
They all played "Tiddly Winks" together and this is where her nickname "Teedle" originated.
She graduated from Dalton High School in 1941 and played the sousaphone in the band. She attended Chadron State College receiving her teaching certificate. She taught at a rural school grades First through Eighth at Reinmuth School District #163. She also taught First and Second Grade at District #91, Dalton Public School. Teedle worked at the Dalton Post Office, Dalton Coop Association and Dalton State Bank. She was a member of the Dalton American Legion Auxiliary and St. Mary's
Catholic Church. She and Johnny farmed west of Dalton. Teedle was united in marriage to John
Henry Watchorn on February 8, 1947, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. This is when their "Sentimental Journey" began. Johnny and Teedle enjoyed dancing and she loved playing the piano. The loves of her life were Johnny, her children and their spouses, grandchildren and their spouses and greatgrandchildren. She was an energetic and involved wife, mother, grandma and great-grandma, which included sitting on those hard bleachers during ballgames for many hours over the years. A day didn't go by she wasn't calling to check on the family.
Teedle had a strong faith in God; praying the Rosary daily gave her peace. She certainly touched everyone she met with her kindness and positive attitude. She was "Grandma Teedle" to all her friends, too. She leaves a legacy of three children, seven grandchildren and seventeen greatgrandchildren.
Teedle will be missed and lovingly remembered by her sons, J. Kyle and wife Kathy Watchorn; Ted and wife Dottie Watchorn; and daughter, Sheri J. and husband Steve Hopkins, III all of Dalton.
Teedle's seven grandchildren, Ryan and wife Becky Watchorn of Sidney; Tricia and husband, Steve Scholz of North Platte; Kelly and husband Jerod Dean of Bridgeport; Joshua and wife Kelsey
Watchorn of Sidney; Renee and husband Nate Begger of Cheyenne; Wendi and husband Bob Elsen of Torrington; Tyler and wife Ashley Hopkins of Dalton. Great Grandchildren: Madelyn, Claire and
Alec Watchorn; Samuel, Isabelle and Marjorie Scholz; Grace, Landon and Isaac Dean; Kennedy, Kyler and Jamison Watchorn; Grady and Kinley Begger; Garrett, Parker and Taylor Elsen. She is also survived by numerous well-loved nieces and nephews.
Teedle was preceded in death by her parents Neal and Louise Thompson; her husband
Johnny; four brothers, Ted, Joseph, Pete and Jimmy Thompson; four sisters, Edna Smith, Marguriete Peters, Lucile Larson and Kathryn Cortney.
This is truly the end of an era!!!
