Bryan J. Bruns

Bryan J. Bruns, age 76 of Chappell, NE passed away, at his home, surrounded by family Wednesday, December 26, 2018 in Chappell.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, January 3rd the Zion Lutheran Church in Chappell with Reverend Neil Carlson officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Chappell Cemetery. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Wednesday, January 2nd from 1-7:00 P.M. with family present from 5-6:00. Memorial contributions may be made in Bryan’s name to the Zion Lutheran Church or the Chappell Volunteer Fire Department. Bryan Jay Bruns, the son of Glen Franklin and Delores Alfreda (Gross) Bruns, was born on February 20, 1942 in Omaha, NE. He attended Deuel County Schools and participated in football, band and choir. He graduated with the class of 1960 with Honors.
Bryan married shortly after graduation and moved to Portland, OR where he worked for his grandfather Paul Gross in his furniture store for seven years. He restored and repaired oil paintings and delivered furniture. Two children Angela and Greg were born while in Portland. The family moved back to the family farm in 1967 and moved into Chappell after a couple years. He farmed until retiring in 2010.
Bryan helped build the baseball park in Chappell, remodel the Zion Lutheran Church and built a multi-dimensional cross for the church. He was an avid sports fan, holding season tickets for Nebraska and Bronco Football games for many years. Bryan enjoyed antique and unique cars, loved auctions where he bought antiques and many bronze statues and really enjoyed cleaning and restoring paintings. He was a member of Jaycees, and president of the Saddle Club. He was a world traveler enjoying many cruises and tours of other countries. He spent winters in McAllen, TX and Scottsdale, AZ.
Bryan is survived by Twila Sick of Chappell; (3) daughters; Angela Wade and husband Scott, of Lamoni, IA, Denise Callahan and husband Bob of Oshkosh, NE, Sheila Colby of South Carolina; (1) son; Greg Bruns and wife Linda of Mesa, AZ; (2) sisters; Glenda Bruns and husband Bob of Anguilla Caribbean Island, Connie Dahlgren and husband Gordon of Phoenix, AZ; (13) grandchildren and (18) great-grandchildren.
Bryan was preceded in death by his parents Glen and Delores Bruns, grandparents Harvey J. and Viola Bruns and Paul G. and Alfreda Gross.
