Carmela T. Brown, age 97, of Cheyenne, WY and former Sidney resident passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2019 in Cheyenne.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, May 10th in the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Father Mike McDermott officiating. There will be no Rosary Service. Cremation has been held. Inurnment will follow Mass in the Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel to sign Carmela’s register book and drop off condolences for the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Carmela’s name to Sidney Regional Medical Center, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church or Sidney Public Library. Carmela Theresa (Scibona) Brown, the daughter of Gregory and Concetta (Alessi) Scibona, was born on November 15, 1921 in Denver, Colorado. She lived in Denver, CO for 26 years and attended and graduated from North Denver High School. On September 10, 1943 she married Raymond W. Brown in Denver. After obtaining her nursing degree in three years from St. Joseph’s Hospital in 1943, she moved to Sidney, NE where she resided for 63 years. While in Sidney she worked at Sidney Memorial Hospital for 27 years as a registered nurse.
Carmela enjoyed reading and walking 3K’s and 5K’s. She also enjoyed nature. She said that Nursing was the best vocation and her favorite endeavor.
Carmela is survived by (3) sons, Michael Brown and wife Shari of Santa Cruz, CA, Gregory Brown and wife Debra of Cheyenne, WY and Patrick Brown and wife Tina of Gurnee, IL; (1) daughter Sheila Lees of San Diego, CA; (2) sisters, Josephine Ziska of Denver, CO and Violet Effinger of Steamboat Springs, CO; (6) grandchildren, (4) great-grandchildren; (1) sister-in-law Virginia Scibona of Lilburn, GA and numerous extended family members.
Carmela was preceded in death by her husband: Raymond, her parents: Gregory and Concetta Scibona, (1) brother Gregory Scibona, (2) brothers-in-law Thomas Effinger and Fred Ziska and (1) son-in-law Matthew Lees.
