Graveside services will follow at a later date in Avon, SD. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Light Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1345 Linden, Sidney NE, 69162, or to an organization of their choice.
Carol was born in Avon, SD on September 15, 1939 to Lester and Raychel (Pritzkau) Lorenz. She graduated from Avon High School in 1957, and attended Mt. Marty College in Yankton SD, graduating with a Degree in Nursing. She married Don Christjans on December 31, 1959. Carol worked as a Registered Nurse in Yankton SD, Klemme IA, and Tyndall SD before moving to Sidney in 1969.
Don and Carol lived in Sidney from 1969 to 1989, raising their family there. Carol was a caring, familiar face to many Sidney residents while working as a nurse in the Sidney Hospital and in the office of Dr.’s Cutright, Cornelius and Akerson. In 1989 they moved to Las Vegas, NV, where Carol continued working as a nurse and was very involved in church life and PEO. In 2002 Carol and Don returned to Sidney and enjoyed a life of retirement. They spent much time supporting their children and grandchildren's activities. They loved to travel and enjoyed an active lifestyle. Carol enjoyed walking, biking, playing cards, and reading. She was an active member of PEO. Carol had a strong faith in the Lord, and loved her family, fall leaves and red licorice.
She is survived by: daughter Janet Volkmer of Sidney, NE, son Tom Christjans and wife Lisa of Hideout, UT; grandson Scott Volkmer and wife Kelsey of Denver, CO; granddaughters Jennifer Sutton and husband Caleb of Sidney, NE, Jessica Christjans of San Francisco, CA, Sarah Christjans of Omaha, NE; two great grandchildren, and her brother, Dave Lorenz and wife Jeaneite of Vermillion, SD.

Our sympathy and prayers on the death of your Mother. Many wonderful memories of our younger years in Avon and also at class reunions. "A Mother's love is forever, nothing can take it away from you for it lives within your heart and your memories and is a part of all that you do." LeRoy and Mary Brandt

Our sympathy goes to your family. We enjoyed your parents friendship over the years. Going to many basketball games, while Jim and Don officiated, even a few trips to Lincoln.

I can’t believe my forever friend is gone. But dear friend you suffered enough. Nothing will erase our years together in Avon. My heart aches but please know you will always have a special little place there. My prayers to your beautiful family. They have always been so special to us. Rest In Peace until I see you again.
