Obituary for Christy A Schumacher

Christy A. Schumacher, age 52, of Gurley, NE passed away on Monday, August 1, 2022 at Sidney Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, August 6, 2022, at the Salem Lutheran Church in Gurley, NE with Pastor Ted Bourret officiating. Burial will follow in the Sanders Cemetery in Dalton. Services will be recorded and available on our website for viewing. Services will livestreamed on Facebook.

Christy was born October 13, 1969, in Sidney, NE to Russell and Annabell (Reimers) Rushman. She was baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church in Gurley, where she was a lifelong member, youth group sponsor, Sunday school teacher, and LWML member. She graduated from Leyton High School in 1987 and from Chadron State College in 1992. She worked briefly for Western Nebraska Community College. In 1997, she started teaching at Leyton Public Schools as a business teacher.
On July 3, 1993, she married the love of her life Sean George and together they had 1 child, David James (DJ) in November 2000. Sean passed away in February 2001. Christy married Scott Schumacher on December 10, 2011, where they joined families. She gained two more sons, Sam Schumacher and Skylar Schumacher.
Christy had an undying love for her students. She faithfully served the school as a score and stats keeper for athletic activities. She was a head speech coach, one acts coach, assistant volleyball coach, class sponsor, and everyone’s number one cheerleader in and out of the classroom.
She is survived by her husband Scott Schumacher, son DJ George, stepsons Sam Schumacher and wife Jordan and daughter Sawyer, and Skylar Schumacher, parents Russ and Ann Rushman, father-in-law Gerry George, brothers Rob and wife Nicki, Rol and wife Sherri, and Brooks and wife Angie Rushman. She was also survived by special friends Jodi Craig and Janella Kruse, special cousin Lea Anne Hedges, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends.
Her first husband Sean George, mother-in-law Judy George, brother-in-law Chad George, grandparents Norman & Gertrude Rushman, and Howard & Lois Reimers, parents-in-law Virgil and Eldora Schumacher, and great nephew Isaiah Lindholm preceded her in death.
