Obituary for Dan J. Wolff
Daniel J. Wolff, age 65, of Sidney, NE passed away at his home on Monday, February 13, 2023. A Wake Service will be held at 6:00 P.M. on Friday, February 17, 2023 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sidney, NE. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, February 18, 2023 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Father C.P. Varghese officiating. Burial will follow at Cabela Private Cemetery. Services will be livestreamed on the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel Facebook page and recorded for later viewing on our website.
Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Friday from 1-4:00 P.M. with family present from
2-4:00 P.M. to leave condolences for the family. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials to St. Patrick’s Church, Sidney, Nebraska.

Daniel Joseph Wolff was born on July 31, 1957 in Sidney, NE to Leo Joseph and Nancy Lee (Brennan) Wolff.
The Lord instilled in Dan a love for the outdoors at a young age and he never lost the peace and purpose he found in wild places. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Teri, visiting many countries where they could explore the magnificent variety of God’s creation. Their trips to Ireland, Africa and the Holy Land especially inspired his memories.
After graduating from Gurley, NE High School in 1975, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy—four years active duty and two years inactive. Afterwards, he spent many years working as a carpenter finding satisfaction in the process of building something tangible with his own hands.
With his wife, Teri, he operated Ricky and Lucy’s Greenhouse giving him ample time outdoors working with hands-on landscape installation and maintenance.
No matter how tough things may have seemed to be from the outside, he rarely failed to answer the question “How are you doing?” with one simple but profound word—“Blessed”. That joyful one-word statement was a testament to his gratitude to God and a gentle reminder to the rest of us the difference gratefulness can make in our lives. If you would ask him to sum up his life in one word, he would say “Blessed.” Is there any better definition to a life well understood?
Dan had many loves. He loved hunting, fishing, spending time at the lake cabin and in Vail watching his grandchildren ski. Most of all, he loved serving the Lord and tried to live with that as his calling. His greatest joys, and blessings, were of his wife, his children his grandchildren and the memories they made together. The closer he came to God the more he understood the priority relationships should hold in this life.
Dan is survived by his wife, Teri, his daughters, Whitney (Wolff) Whatley, Sarah and husband Chris Buchholz, and Rachael Rufenacht, his grandchildren, Kaydence and Gracynn Whatley, Haley and Adalynn Buchholz, Jaiden Schilreff and Ariana Rufenacht, his mother Nancy Wolff, siblings Steve and wife Paula Wolff, Mike and wife Cathy Wolff, Chris and husband Phil Stevens, Greg and wife Lori Wolff, Cathy Hecker and friend Rick Frerichs and many other loved ones.
Dan was preceded in death by his first wife Jean (Shimek) Wolff, daughter Meghan Frees, father Leo Wolff and niece Stephanie Hajek.
