David G. Egging
David Egging, age 74 of Gurley, NE passed away Saturday, February 29, 2020 at the hospital in Sidney. A Mass will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, May 29, 2020 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sidney with Father Mike McDermott officiating. Cremation has been held and inurnment will take place at the Greenwood Cemetery. Due to current social distancing regulations, no luncheon will follow.
David Gerhard Egging was born on March 20, 1945 in Sidney, NE to Leo and Hazel (Madden) Egging. He attended the Gurley Public School. After high school he traveled with a wheat harvest crew for a few years. He moved to Kansas and later back to Nebraska where he worked at Cabela’s in Sidney.
Anyone who met David knew he was a huge Nebraska Husker fan. Husker memorabilia, family photos and his own artwork were proudly displayed throughout his home. David worked hard each summer to maintain his yard, spraying for weeds, mowing and watering. He was on top of the world when he received the town’s “Best Yard Award”. David was uncle to several nieces and nephews. He was especially fond of his niece, Mendi (Egging) Cotter, who was born on his birthday in 1989.
David is survived by his uncle Lawrence and aunt Carolee Egging of Gurley, NE, aunt B.J. Madden of Scottsbluff, NE, aunt Eva Ditsch of Alliance, NE; brothers and sisters Richard and Jolene Egging of Gurley, NE, Carol (Egging) and Wayne Lloyd of Myrtle Beach, SC, Faye (Egging) and Arlen Lund of Zeeland, ND, Mike and Patrice Egging of Pratt, KS, Susan Egging of Spearfish, SD, Judy (Egging) and Joel Peschard of Leland, NC, Cindy (Egging) Barber of Leland, NC as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Hazel Egging, Mendi Cotter and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
