Dean Nels Olson, age 82, of Sidney, NE passed away Sunday, December 19, 2021 in Sidney. Dean’s request was to be cremated without services. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made, in his memory, to the Sidney Elks Lodge “1894”, PO Box 14, Sidney, NE 69162.

Dean Nels Olson was born in Sidney, Nebraska on Oct 13, 1939, to Carl L. Olson and Ruth
M. Olson. He spent his younger school years in Sidney and went on to complete his high
school years at Kemper Military School, in Booneville, MS. He graduated in 1957 and
sought a higher education at Colorado State University, Fort Collins, CO. It was there
that he met the mother (Sandy) of his two children, Christie M. Olson Knoll and Eric E.
Olson. They resided on the Olson family farm southwest of Sidney. In 1967, Dean, Sandy and
his children moved to Bakersfield, CA.
In 1971, Dean married his wife of 43 years, Joan Olson. Dean had the pleasure of adding
Joan’s 3 children to his life. He and Joan resided in Bakersfield, CA until 1991. They
moved to Dean’s hometown of Sidney, purchased many rental properties and the
historic Osborne home, where they resided until his passing. Dean was a devoted father teaching his children the value of hard work and reward. Dean and Joan were very involved in the community. They especially enjoyed their membership and involvement with the Sidney Elks Club Lodge “1894”. Dean was a 55+ year member of the Elks and became an Exalted Ruler.
Dean is survived by his children, Christie and husband Rick Knoll of Black Forest, CO, Eric and wife Melinda Olson of Paul’s Valley, OK, Judy and husband Larry Neal of Vacaville, CA and Rob and wife Shirley Miller of Texas. 6 grandchildren, Eric Olson Jr., Christopher Bivens, Lisa M Bivens, Becky Brooks, Chris Neal, Shelly Miller and 5 great grandchildren Aurora, Aiden, Deric, Thomas and Grayson.
Dean was preceded in death by his mother Ruth M. Olson, his father Carl L. Olson, his wife Joan Olson, stepdaughter Kathy Lingenfelter and prior spouse Sandy Halliwell.
