I offer my condolences to the Pittam family and hope that everyone will follow Derald's lead and be good to one another! Derald was always very patient and kind to the "lake neighborhood" kids and, 30 years later, I will miss seeing him every summer. RIP---

My heartfelt condolences. Derald and I were classmates at Sidney High. Although I haven't visited Sidney in many years, the memories of those days and with Derald as a good friend during that time, constantly give me good rembrances. During difficult times, all of us can cherish those times during our formative years. .......... tomGilliland

My heart goes out to Derald's family.

Derald was many things to many people but he was one thing to all people, kind! His welcoming smile and contagious laugh were enjoyed by all.
I have many memories with Derald. Most involved around the lake, fishing and hunting. My first memory of Derald came when I was around 13 years old. He was starting construction on the lake house and I was visiting the neighbors, Jack and Joyce. Derald engaged me in discussion and later offered that I take the family Wet Bike for a ride on the lake. I thought wow; this guy is crazy, but super nice! Derald has been very giving to me, and my family, for decades. He led by example.
Over the last few years I would visit Nebraska in November and when I would advise Derald that I was coming it wasn’t, “do you want to go duck hunting?”, but “which days are we going?”. The duck blind was one of Derald’s favorite places. I truly believe he would go every morning! While in the blind with Derald last fall, I shot my first teal and goose while Derald worked the call. We enjoyed the breakfast (and brownies) that Judy sent while we had great conversation. He shared his appreciation for the great fortune he had to have a family business and work with those he loved, his father and then his sons. He was happy for Scott’s transition and looked forward to the same for Shad. We always spoke of his beloved granddaughters, and their companions, even that Mike!
We agreed that we were from the same cloth, two boys that loved the outdoors. I told Derald he needed to live another 20 years so that I had a hunting and fishing buddy after I retired.
Hey Derald, know that I will keep knocking them out of the sky for both of us…..made you smile!
