Duane R. Smith, age 83, of Sidney, NE, passed away Thursday, March 26, 2020, in Kimball, NE. A graveside inurnment will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 5, 2020 at the Haxtun Cemetery in Haxtun, CO. Cremation has been held. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Cheyenne County Community Center in support of the senior programs. Duane Robert Smith was born September 5, 1936 to Maurice and Leatha (Freemeyer) Smith of Haxtun, CO. His younger years were spent in Haxtun where he was raised by his loving mother, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. Later Leatha relocated her family to Sidney, NE, where Duane graduated from Sidney High School.
After graduating high school Duane enlisted in the Marines where he served his country in the Korean War. Duane then returned to Sidney and worked for various oil field companies until beginning work for KN Energy where he remained until his retirement. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Sidney.
Duane is survived by his daughter Lynn (Smith) Namuth and husband Michael of Sidney; brother Ron Smith of Glendive, MT; grandchildren Brandi (Namuth) Johnson of Fort Collins, CO and Greg Namuth of Sidney; great grandchildren Dylan Namuth of Columbus, MT, Ella Johnson and MacKendree Greenlee of Fort Collins, CO and various loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Duane was preceded in death by his brother Charles Smith, sister Connie Smith, mother Leatha Smith and wife Hester Smith.
