Gene was born March 14, 1959 at Flagler, Colorado to Louis and Myrna Marie (Brachtanbach) Tagtmeyer. He graduated from Seibert High School with the Class of 1977 and attended NJC studying psychology and horticulture.
Gene was married to Julie Reichman. The couple later divorced.
Gene served in the United States Navy until his discharge. After the Navy, he lived and worked in Groton, Connecticut as a Rigger for Electric Boat Corp for several years before returning and making his permanent residence in Nebraska. Most recently he was employed by Burger King in Scottsbluff.
Gene also known as “Gene Bean” by his sister, was a huge animal lover and had several cats and dogs that made great companions and loyal friends. A life passion for Gene was working hard to make beautiful flower gardens, building a waterfall, and tending to the Koi pond he lovingly helped make for his mom. He also liked to collect and study different geodes, crystals, gemstones, and special rocks and could tell you the history of each one. Gene loved to cook and make “special recipes” of his own for others to enjoy. Gene loved his job and those he worked with and will leave a void at Burger King. He had a big heart and would lend a helping hand or a listening ear to anyone who needed it. Gene will be fondly remembered and missed by many family and friends.
Gene is survived by his mother and step-father Myrna and Mick Carlson of Chappell; father and step-mother Louis and Gail Tagtmeyer of Ogallala, NE; sister Chellee Westerbuhr and her husband John of Julesburg, CO; niece and nephews Dawn, Damien, and Ronnie Westerbuhr; great nephews Jorge and Julian Rios; brother Rick Tagtmeyer of Chappell; nephews Dillon and wife Jamie Tagtmeyer and their son Jaxon, Weston and wife Kylee Tagtmeyer, Auston and wife Rachel Tagtmeyer, and Jimmie and wife Kacee Tagtmeyer and their children Jimmie, Jr and Kaylee; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Gene was preceded in death by step-brothers Todd Carlson and Troy Carlson, nephew Levi Tagtmeyer and Grandmother Ruth Robinson.
