Eugenia Theresa Feuerborn was born on November 27, 1942 in Medicine Lodge, Kansas. She was baptized into the Catholic Church as an infant and received her first Communion on May 8, 1949. She was confirmed, taking St. Therese of Lisieux as her patroness. She received the Last Rites near the end of her life.
On June 10, 2022 Gena died much the way she had lived: peacefully in her home of 50 years in Sidney, holding her rosary. Gena was a lifelong Catholic with strong devotions to St. Rose of Lima and St. Anthony. This information is known to anyone who conversed with her for any length of time. She took seriously and zealously our Lord’s command, “Go ye into the whole world, and preach the gospel to every creature,” Mk 16:15.
Gena enjoyed family gatherings, the company of children and music. She was a voracious reader and assiduously amassed an impressive home library, in spite of gifting large numbers of books to friends and family. In her younger years, she fostered a love of languages, studying Latin and Old English and achieving near fluency in Russian.
Members of the Sidney community will remember her for her devoted work at St. Patrick’s Parish or later for her time as the customer favorite cashier at Walmart. Her personal motto, “always be patient, always be helpful, always smile” won her many friends through countless brief interactions.
Gena was preceded in death by her parents Joseph Peter and Justine Mary (Schmidt) Feuerborn, her brothers Joseph Martin Feuerborn and Marne Thomas Feuerborn, and her sisters Mary Margaret Sawtelle and Catherine Michelle Thompson.
Gena’s survivors include brothers Gregory Feuerborn of Claremont, CA, and Chad and wife Cathy Feuerborn of West Linn, OR and many nieces and nephews.
