Obituary for Harold M "Hal" Brown

Harold “Hal” Miles Brown, age 84, of Dalton, NE died on Monday, May 17, 2021 at a Hospice Center in Golden, CO. A Vigil service will be held at 10:00 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, May 27, 2021. Both services will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dalton, NE with Father CP and Father Dave Rykwalder officiating. Inurnment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Dalton. Services will be recorded and available on our website for viewing.
Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Wednesday from 1-6:00 P.M. to sign Hal’s register book and leave condolences for the family.

Hal Brown was born in Garden County, NE, on April 15, 1937, the son of Miles and Evelyn Brown. He lived in and attended school in Lewellen, NE until he enlisted in the US Air Force in 1954. After serving four years he moved to Omaha and then enlisted in the US Navy in 1959, where he served for 28 years, retiring in 1987 as a Chief Warrant Officer W4. He served in many capacities and tours of duty, including many years on nuclear submarines. His first marriage was to Iva Kay. To this union three sons were born, David, Daniel, and Timothy. In 1981 he married Jacquie in Honolulu, HI. They lived in Hawaii, Mare Island, CA, Oak Harbor, WA, until moving to Dalton, NE in 1992. Jacquie died in 2013. On November 13, 2013, Hal married Carol Vallier in Dalton. They thoroughly enjoyed nearly eight years of marriage.
Hal was a member of Mintken-Davison American Legion Post 301, the Dalton Lion’s Club, and St. Mary’s Catholic Church, serving several terms on the church council.
Hal loved fishing, especially when accompanied by Carol. He also loved hunting, as he had since growing up in the North Platte River Valley. He loved being with people. He enjoyed supporting younger people in the community and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone needing assistance.
Hal is survived by his wife Carol of Dalton, sons David Brown and wife Regla of Rota, Spain, Daniel Brown and wife Christine of Oceanside, CA, Timothy and wife Janet of Lincoln, NE, step daughters Vikki Reed and husband Jeff of Council Bluffs, IA, Cathi Vallier of Missouri Valley, IA, sister Shirley Gillespie and husband Bud of Broadwater, NE, 9 grandchildren, and numerous extended family and many friends.
Hal was proceeded in death by his parents and sister Joan Garrison.
