Harold C. Tremain

Harold C. Tremain, age 101 of Sidney, NE passed away in Sidney, Monday, March 18, 2019.
Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, March 23rd in the First United Methodist Church with Pastor Corey Jenkins officiating. Inurnment with Military Honors will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery. Cremation has been held. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Friday from 1-7:00 P.M. to sign Harold’s register book and leave condolences for the family. Memorial contributions may be made in Harold's name to the Cheyenne County Community Center. Gehrig-Stitt Chapel & Cremation Service, LLC is in charge of Harold’s care and funeral arrangements.
Harold Charles Tremain, the son of A.R. and Caroline (Schweizer) Tremain, was born on February 13, 1918 in Malcolm, NE. The family moved to the Sidney area in 1920.
Harold enlisted in the navy in 1942 and completed training as a naval pilot. He was awarded the Air Medal for distinguished service during World War II. He returned to the farm following his Honorable Discharge. On December 18, 1950, Harold married Elizabeth “Betty” Rauner. His passion for farming continued late into his life. Harold was very active with the Wheat Growers and helped to establish the High Plains Ag Lab in Western Nebraska. He, along with his brother (Cecil Tremain) and brother-in-law (Robert Rauner), opened the John Deere Dealership in Sidney in the late 1950s. Harold enjoyed traveling, reading, walking and hiking.
Survivors include his five children: Gary Tremain and Joanne Hibbert of Lakewood, CO, Janet Riskowski of Waco, TX, Carol Tremain of Sidney, NE, John Tremain also of Sidney and Scott Tremain and wife Jean of Dallas, TX; (3) grandchildren: Ryan Riskowski, Nicole and Jacob Tremain.
Harold was preceded in death by his wife: Betty in 2008 and siblings: Cecil Tremain, Forrest Tremain and Verona Wiekhorst.

John and siblings,
Harold was a great person. He enjoyed life and was a good steward of the land that he was so privileged to farm. His love of farming, was evident in the smile he wore on his face as he reported the harvested bushels. I will always remember his soft voice and great smile. My sympathy to his family
