Obituary for John Edward Barr
John E. Barr, age 74, of Sidney, NE passed away Thursday, November 4, 2021 in Sidney. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, November 12, 2021 in the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 2305 San Marino Rd in Sidney, NE with Pastor Chad Rademacher officiating. Inurnment will be in Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, CO, Monday, November 22, 2021, at 9:15 A.M. Cremation has been held. The family respectfully requests that masks are worn by attendees at both services. Memorials can be made to the Wounded Warriors or the donor’s choice. Services will be recorded and available on our website for viewing. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Thursday from 1-6:00 P.M. to sign John’s register book and leave condolences for the family.

John Edward Barr, a longtime resident of Sidney, an incredible husband, father, grandfather, and friend to so many. Born in Boise, ID in 1947 to Evelyn Nunenkamp (Koch) and Roy L Barr, John eventually moved with his mother to Englewood, CO where he spent the rest of his childhood before graduating from South High School in 1965. Following high school, John enlisted in the Navy where he served as an Operations and Communications Specialist serving most of his time on the USS Hornet where he was part of the recovery effort for the Apollo 12 crew in 1969. John was very proud of his military service having earned the National Defense Service Medal during the Vietnam War.
John married his high school sweetheart, Sharon Barr (McComas), on April 14, 1968, in Englewood, CO. Sharon traveled with John to Japan during his military service before he was honorably discharged in 1970. They then moved back to Englewood where they started a family while John began seeking work. Their first two sons, Tim and Tony, were both born in Englewood, CO, before the family moved to Sidney in 1974 where they sought a more modest pace of life. Their youngest son, Tyson, was born in 1978 and, over the next few decades, John worked in various professions and was able to fulfill a longing desire to own his own business by opening JBarr Hobbies in 1984 in downtown Sidney. Prior to his final business venture, Barr’s Mars auto detailing business in 2006, he served as Receiving Manager at the Cabela’s retail store for over 10 years. Passionate about everything involving cars, John’s favorite hobbies and vacations often involved driving either his 1998 Pontiac Trans Am or his 1952 Buick Special.
John is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sharon of Sidney, son Tim Barr of Omaha, NE, son Tony Barr of Englewood, CO, son Tyson (Courtney) Barr of Colorado Springs, CO, grandchildren, Hudson, Camden, Mollee as well as nieces, nephews, and other family. John is preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn, and his sister, Bonnie.
