Obituary for Karen R Sergent

Karen R. Sergent, age 74, of Mead, CO and formerly of Arnold, MD, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2021 at home after battling ALS. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, June 18, 2021 at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sidney, NE with Father Deaver officiating. Inurnment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Sidney, NE. Cremation has been held.

Karen was born on January 2nd, 1947 in Sidney, NE, she was the third of nine children of Donald and Betty Deaver. After graduating from St. Patrick’s High School in 1965, she went on to study English at the University of Nebraska and graduated in 1968. She married Bill Sergent on June 10th, 1967.
Karen taught for two and a half years and then went on to work at B. Dalton Bookstore in Lincoln. In 1983, the family moved to Maryland where she worked various jobs until starting her own business, The Gourmet Connection. After selling the business, she teamed up with her husband to work at their company Cryogas, Inc. Upon Bill’s death in 2013, she sold the business and moved to Mead, CO where she remained near her family until death.
Karen loved reading, playing piano, crocheting, and had recently learned how to make stained glass art. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
Karen was preceded in death by her husband Bill, son Kent, parents Donald and Betty Deaver, sister Peggy Deaver, and brother Jimmy Deaver.
She is survived by her son Dana and wife Kate Sergent, grandchildren Sam and Nora Sergent, sisters Nancy and husband Phil Grabowski, Cheryl and husband Deris Wolff, brothers Dan and wife Nancy Deaver, Victor and wife Pam Deaver, John and wife Margaret Deaver, Mike and wife Doris Deaver, and numerous nieces and nephews.
