Kelvin LeRoy Boltjes was born on April 25, 1953 in Akron, CO to John and Luella Boltjes. Kelvin attended Otis High School and was a member of the Class of 1971 which was more like a family. On December 18, 1971, Kelvin married his high school sweetheart, Colleen (Melendy) Boltjes. They recently celebrated 48 years of marriage. To this union, three children were born; Brenda Kay, Anthony Kelvin and Janice Renee. They were blessed with grandchildren, Laurel, Cauyer, Nathan, Cayson and Everly.
Kelvin joined the United States Air Force and was stationed at Bergstrom Air Force Base in Austin, TX. After returning home from the service, Kelvin moved to Sterling, CO where he worked as a roustabout in the oil fields for John Moore, Coca-Cola Distributing and Isabel Irrigation.
Kelvin accepted God’s call to preach God’s word and moved to attend LIFE Bible College in Los Angeles, CA living in Burbank, CA. While in college, Kelvin served on staff at the Burbank Foursquare Church. Kelvin graduated and was ordained as a Pastor of the International Foursquare Gospel. He continued to serve on staff at Burbank Foursquare. In March of 1986, Kelvin accepted the call to Pastor the Sidney Foursquare Church-Living Water Fellowship where he was currently pastoring. He loved being a Pastor and ministering to people.
Traveling was a favorite of Kelvin’s and to be able to go to Israel was a great blessing. Wonderful trips to Hawaii, Haiti and many States were a gift to him.
Kelvin loved the United States of America and took a stand for his country believing we were blessed to live here. Kelvin was a member of the American Legion.
Kelvin experienced many honors as a pastor such as Chaplin for the CO Rockies for a day and opening in prayer for Colin Powell. He was involved with Make a Wish and Night of Hope. Kelvin was part of Promise Keepers and continued to promote the values taught. Special Olympics was always close to his heart.
Kelvin enjoyed football, especially his CU Buffs. He was an avid lifetime Bronco fan and didn’t believe in being a fair weather fan. Most important was time spent with family. Whenever he could, he always took time to be with his grandchildren. With each grandchild, he formed a special relationship. He was their biggest fan supporting whatever they choose to participate in such as track, wrestling, basketball, cross-country, band, plays or dance, it didn’t matter as he was always cheering them on.
Kelvin loved people and sharing Jesus with them. To many, he was not only a pastor but a friend. Once a friend always a friend.
Kelvin is survived by his wife; Colleen of Sidney, son; Anthony (Kristin) of Sidney, NE; daughter Janice Cates (Doug) of Colby, KS; grandchildren; Cauyer Glanz, Cayson Boltjes, Everly Boltjes all of Sidney, Laurel Cates, Nathan Cates both of Colby, KS; brother; Dan (Bobbie) Boltjes of Colorado Springs, CO; sister; Dorothy (Steve) Johnson of Oregon City, OR; mother-in-law; Arlene Melendy; sister-in-law; Carol (Randall) Feather all of Otis, CO; nieces and nephews and numerous cousins and friends.
