Obituary for Lauren A. Schroeder

Lauren A. Schroeder, age 93, of Corpus Christi, TX and formerly of Sidney passed away Saturday, January 15, 2022 in Corpus Christi, TX. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at Gehrig-Stitt Chapel in Sidney, NE with Pastor Chad Rademacher officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Sidney with full military honors. Services will be recorded and available on our website for viewing. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Monday from 1-6:00 P.M. to sign Lauren’s register book and leave condolences for the family. Family will be present.

Lauren was born on October 6, 1928, to Lillian and Ludwig Schroeder on the farm west of Dalton, NE. He attended Center grade school (District 61) and graduated from Gurley High School in 1946. Lauren did odd jobs within the farming community and worked at the Sioux Army Depot until he enlisted in the US Army in August 1948. Lauren met his wife, Patricia, while at Fort Knox, KY. They were married in Seelyville, IN in November of 1951. Four children were born to this union, Christi, Lauren Michael, Charles and Lauri. Lauren’s duty assignments included Fort Knox, KY, Oberammergau, Germany, Fort Carson, CO, Augsberg, Germany, Colorado Springs, CO, Korea, Frankfurt, Germany and he retired as Sergeant Major in August of 1976 at Fort Lee, VA.

After retirement, he worked with his brother-in-law who purchased obsolete telephone switching equipment. He would travel around the country, hiring day labor and dismantling the equipment. It would then be hauled to Waco, TX where the precious metals were recovered for recycling.

Survivors include his children, Christi and husband Alex Baez of Lawton, OK, Lauren and wife Susan of Colorado Springs, CO, Charles and wife Susan of Nashau, NH and Lauri Sanders of Yuma, AZ. Sisters Doris Rohde of Centennial, CO and Shirley Green of Rock Springs, WY.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ludwig and Lillian (Sander) Schroeder, wife Patricia, significant other Erika MacKay, sister Betty Ann Kieselhorst, brother-in-laws, Harold Kieselhorst and Ronald Rohde and grandsons Christopher and Alejandro Baez.
