Leon D. Radke

Leon D. Radke, age 72 of Sidney, NE passed away in Bridgeport, NE, Tuesday, February 12, 2019.
A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, February 19th in the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sidney with Father Mike McDermott officiating. There will be no wake or rosary service. Cremation has been held. Services will conclude at the church. Inurnment will take place at a later date. Memorials may be made in Leon’s name to the donor’s choice.

Leon D. Radke was born on March 7, 1946 in Lewellen, NE to Bernard and Viola (Peterson) Radke Sr. of Big Springs, NE. He graduated from Julesburg High School in 1964. He also attended NJC and CSU. Following graduation from College, Leon served in the United States Army from May 1970 until April 1971. He was stationed in Vietnam.
Leon was very energetic, hard working and willing to help anyone in need. He worked for Sedgwick County Road and Bridge Department until he married Penny Matthes on January 7, 1995. They made their home in Sidney, NE where Leon worked for Progress Rail and later the Sidney Postal Service until his retirement in 2014. Leon loved hunting and the outdoors. He took pride in his yard and pond which shows in his beautiful home.
Survivors include his wife Penny; (1) brother: Richard Radke and wife Karolyn of Brush, CO; (1) sister: Sharon Radke Mitchell of Aurora, CO; (1) sister-in-law: Joanie Matthes of Lincoln and (13) nieces and nephews who thought the world of their uncle.
Leon was preceded in death by his parents, (1) brother: Bernard Jr., (1) sister-in-law: Eileen Radke; (1) brother-in-law: Bob Matthes and (2) nephews: Greg and David Radke.
