Lloyd Lavern Guggenmos
Lloyd Guggenmos, age 90, of Sidney, NE passed away in Longmont, CO on June 13, 2020. Private family Graveside services will be held in the Greenwood Cemetery. Lloyd Lavern Guggenmos was born January 18, 1930 in Garfield County, Nebraska to David and Hazel (Philbrick) Guggenmos. He was the fourth child and second son born to his parents and is survived only by his youngest brother, Darrell (and Ellen) Guggenmos of Taylor, Nebraska.
He graduated from Ord High School in 1947 and attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. He studied pharmacy and became a registered pharmacist in 1955. He worked at Beranek Drug in Ord, Nebraska and was at work when Carolyn Horwart entered the drug store to get a prescription filled. He was smitten with love and after dating for two years married Carolyn on June 2, 1957 in Ord, Nebraska.
Into this union was born five children: Janet (and Brian Jeffries); Joel (and Kathy Gandy); JoAnna (and Chuck Aprill); John (and Timur Loynab); and Jean. He was proceeded in death by his youngest daughter, Jean; he missed her every day he lived beyond her 13 short years. He loved his grandchildren and never missed an event and/or an occasion to celebrate their accomplishments. Jennifer Aprill, Jacki (and Steven Wood) Aprill, Joanie (and Dominic Barnes) Aprill, Marie Jeffries, Thomas Jeffries, Gregory Guggenmos, Julie Aprill, and Luke Guggenmos. He was beyond delighted in the addition of a new generation to read his favorite book, A Fly Went By (Michael McClintock). He was the proud great-grandfather of Samuel Wood and Daniel Wood.
He was active in his church and as a young adult accepted Jesus as his savior. He was active in Rotary International and opened his home to several more children by hosting exchange students from various countries, including Australia, Germany, and Norway. He loved fishing and the annual fishing trip with his older brother was a highlight every year. He loved gathering with family and friends. One of his greatest joys was hosting a variety of meals, Bible studies and classes in his home. He supported Carolyn by participating in the University of Nebraska’s Dedicated to Excellence Program. Many years he was privileged to drive Miss Nebraska to her commitments here in Sidney. He was also an integral part of the Angel Tree project, he saw it as a way to honor and remember his beloved daughter, Jean. He loved life and was a vital part of each community he lived in. These included, Ord, Nebraska; Holyoke, Colorado; Socorro, New Mexico; and Sidney Nebraska.
Mostly, Lloyd was all about family and he loved his well.
