Mary Lou (Barnhart) Bartling was born to Benjamin Jacob and Mary Emily (Studlar) Barnhart on April 7, 1934, on the family’s farmstead. She grew up there with her five brothers, Roy Barnhart, Lucas Barnhart, Benjamin Barnhart, John Barnhart, and Eddy Barnhart, and two sisters Ruth (Barnhart) Bartling and Dorothy (Barnhart) VanRay. She graduated from Sunol High School in 1953. Mary Lou loved sharing stories of the mischief she and her siblings got into on the farm.
Mary Lou married the love of her life Lloyd “Bud” Bartling on May 9, 1954 in Lodgepole. To this union four children were born, Marietta, Mitchell, Laurie and Richard. While raising her children she also assisted in the raising of her younger siblings. She also worked outside of the home at the cafeteria at the old WNTC campus, and then at the Lodgepole Plaza Nursing Home. She then retired after many years as supervisor and caregiver with the Office of Human Development.
Mary Lou was a wonderful caring person, and her choices in employment showed that she was a caregiver to others first. She loved spending time with family and friends, and had a very enjoyable 85th birthday lunch with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She truly loved the surprise of her siblings joining her for cake and coffee and visiting. A very big thank you to the staff at SRMC Extended Care for assisting the family in making this special birthday happen, and for all the extraordinary care they always gave to Mary Lou.
Survivors include: her children, Marietta and her husband Bob Arraj, Mitch and his wife Lori Bartling, Richard and his wife Tracey Bartling, 13 grandchildren, 23 great- grandchildren, and one great- great- grandchild, her siblings John and his wife Carolyn Barnhart, Dorothy and her husband Pete VanRay, Eddy and his wife Janet Barnhart, her brothers-in-law Marvin Bartling and Gary Bartling, sisters-in-law Deloris Barnhart, and Doris and her husband Ray Walker, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd “Bud” Bartling, her daughter Laurie Bartling, her parents Benjamin and Mary Barnhart, her parents-in-law Henry and Matilda Bartling, her brothers Benjamin and wife Rita Barnhart, Roy Barnhart, and Lucas Barnhart, her sister Ruth Bartling, her brother-in-law Vernon and wife Shirley Bartling, sister-in-law Maria Bartling, and her great grandson Zacary Maestas.
