Obituary for Melvin L. Plummer

Melvin L. Plummer, age 79, stepped into heaven on December 23, 2020 surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, January 1, 2021 at Gehrig-Stitt Chapel in Sidney, NE with Pastor Rick Sharp officiating. Burial will be Monday, January 4th at the Greenwood Cemetery in Sidney.
There will be a joint visitation for Melvin and Barbara Thursday, December 31st from 1:00-6:00 PM, family will be present 4:00-6:00 PM. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Thursday to sign Melvin’s register book and leave condolences for the family. Family will be present from 4:00-6:00 p.m.

Melvin was born on Feb. 28th, 1941 in Wenatchee, WA. Melvin later moved to St. Joseph, MO where he met Barbara Sharp who would soon become Mrs. Plummer. Melvin and Barbara were married on May 8th, 1965 and enjoyed 55 great years in love.
Melvin’s passion for law enforcement led him into serving as a police officer in Plattsburg, MO and later becoming a Cheyenne County Nebraska Deputy Sheriff. He later served many years as Jail Captain for Cheyenne County and even served a short stent in Emergency Management. Melvin again served as Jail Captain in Cheyenne County until retiring in March of 2015.
Melvin had a great love for the Lord Jesus Christ and served as a deacon in his church and was even known for filling the pulpit occasionally to share God’s Word.
Melvin is survived by his wife Barbara, two sons, Dean Plummer of Sidney and Clayton (Amanda) Plummer of Sidney. Other survivors include grandsons, Christopher and Matthew Plummer of Sidney, NE, various nieces, nephews and cousins.
Melvin was proceeded in death by his parents Calvert and Blanche Plummer, two sisters, Glenda Arndt and Corinne Geeting.
