Obituary for Paul D. "Dave" Arnold

DAVID PAUL ARNOLD
After fighting a short but courageous battle against cancer, David Paul "Dave" Arnold, age 73, of Sidney, NE passed away Sunday, February 17, 2019 at his home.
Cremation has taken place and the family will conduct a special private ceremony at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Dave’s name to SRMC Hospice in Sidney, The Night of Hope or the American Diabetes Association. Gehrig-Stitt Chapel & Cremation Service, LLC is in charge of Dave’s care.
Dave was born on June 10, 1945 near Delta, CO at his family's homestead in Roubideau Canyon, the sixth of 8 children of William and Lillian Arnold. Through the guidance of his parents, Dave developed a strong work ethic and helped contribute to the family income joining his mother in the fields, harvesting fruits and vegetables. As he matured, Dave decided to join the military and in 1961 enlisted in the United States Navy, serving during the Vietnam War. While in the Navy, he was on the U.S.S. Glacier, and later was assigned as a crew member for an admiral. It was during this time Dave learned to cook and a lifelong passion for sharing memories through cooking was born.
As a result of his early life and exposure to so many different things, Dave is remembered as a "jack of all trades." There wasn't anything Dave couldn't do. With his strong desire to earn his way and stellar focus, Dave spent his adult life working hard at each of his jobs. For 22 years, he was a truck driver, and he also had the privilege of working as a ranch foreman for 12 years at the Ellison Ranching Company located in Nevada and at the Escalante Ranch outside of Grand Junction, Colorado. With the demands of his jobs, he became fluent in Spanish and Dave continued to use his knowledge of the language throughout his life and travels in the southwest. Dave loved the western part of the country and ultimately also lived in Idaho, Wyoming, and New Mexico. During the last 10 years of life, Dave had made Sidney his home and was a faithful employee at Pennington Seed, most recently working as a production computer operator.
Dave carried his passion for life into a love of the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing, eagerly sharing stories of his latest catch or an exciting hunt. Dave was the type of man who was always hungry for knowledge and his family and friends remember him for a life brimming with many interests. He delighted in making jewelry, cooking, reading, working on classic cars, watching old westerns, and arrowhead hunting. More recently, Dave also enjoyed taking his loving wife, Pam to the area of Colorado where he grew up and on peaceful trips to Santa Fe, NM.
Dave is survived by his wife, Pam Ray (Sidney, NE); daughter Joann Salazar (Craig, CO); daughter Corlynn Arnold (Twin Falls, ID); son and daughter-in-law Davin and Amanda Arnold (Lodgepole, NE); Stepson Jason Ray (Fort Collins, CO); and stepdaughter and son-in-law Linsey and Matt Haden (Lincoln, NE). He leaves behind 20 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and special friends Mike and Shirl Zubowiez.
David was preceded in death by his parents William and Lillian Arnold, his seven siblings and his wife Sue Arnold (Green).
