Obituary for Phillip Herrera

Phillip P. Herrera, age 68 of Sidney, NE went to be with his Lord on Monday, January 24, 2022. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, January 29, 2022 in the First Baptist Church in Sidney, NE with Pastor Jim Leslie officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Sidney. Services will be recorded and available on our website for viewing. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Friday from 1-6:00 P.M. and leave condolences for the family.

Phil retired from the UP Railroad after 39 years, he worked at The City of Sidney Greenwood Cemetery, F.V.C until he was too ill. He loved to go camping and canoeing with his kids and grandkids. He had a fleet of automobiles, loved riding motorcycles and watching Nebraska football games with his dad. His favorite pastime was watching the TV series Hell on Wheels, but hated that his wife Renita loved watching American Idol. He loved his favorite companion, his cat, Baby Girl.
Phil is survived by his wife of 20 years, Renita Herrera, son Paul Herrera of McPherson KS, daughters Tina and husband Troy Schwartz of McPherson, KS and Sarah and husband Alexander Nelson of Atlanta, GA. Stepson Terrance Swayze of Clovis, NM, stepdaughter Misty Dawn Kershman of Arlington, TX. Grandchildren: Evan and wife Payton Herrera, McPherson, KS; Emma Herrera and Ty Herrera of McPherson, KS. Great grandchildren: Jasmine Herrera of McPherson, KS, Alex Goatley of Hutchinson KS, Zaya Goatley, McPherson, KS; Birkley & Gable Schwartz of McPherson, KS; Adeline Nelson of Atlanta, GA & Omar Nelson of Atlanta, GA.
His father, Percy Herrera, sister, Abby Kennedy, and brother Vince Herrera, all of Sidney, NE.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Teresa Herrera, his mother, Maria Herrera, Grandparents, his stepdaughter, Mandy Kershman and his best friend, Pastor Raymond Stokes
