Obituary for Phylis I Runge
Phylis I. Runge, age 94, longtime resident of Sidney, passed away Thursday, October 8, 2020 in Grand Island, NE. A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Father Mike McDermott officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Monday from 1-7:00. The family will not be present. Memorial contributions may be made in Phylis’ name to the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church Building Fund. Phylis was born in Alliance, NE on March 13, 1926. She was the daughter of William and Marie Engel. She attended St. Agnes Academy and graduated from Hemingford High School in 1944. She taught school and owned a beauty shop. On November 24, 1948 she married Clifford Runge at St. Bridget’s Church in Hemingford. They lived in Ogallala, NE for a brief period before moving to Sidney. She was employed at Fix Pharmacy for 22 years. She volunteered at the Catholic Rummage House, was a member of the Altar Society, and a member of the Adoration Hour.
She is survived by daughter Jolene and husband Larry Schmitt of Grand Island, NE, daughter Mary and husband John Helms of Omaha, NE, and son Alan and wife Sandra Runge of Lodgepole, NE. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and one great, great grandchild. A sister Marlene and husband Gene, and niece Gay and husband Gary of Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her husband Clifford, her parents, brother Alvin, grandson Benjamin Runge, and great grandsons Colby Runge and Cameron Lee Helms.
