Obituary for Richard "Rich" Krueger

Richard G. Krueger

Richard G. Krueger, age 89, a lifelong resident of Cheyenne County, died Friday, December 14, 2018 at David Place in David City, NE.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 21st at 10:00 A.M. in the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Dave Hall officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may stop at Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Thursday, December 20th from 1-7:00 P.M. with family present from 4-6:00. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Rich’s name to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, The Arthritis Foundation in Omaha, or to Adopt–A-Dog Animal Rescue, Inc., in Chappell. Richard G. Krueger was born August 12, 1929 at Colton, six miles east of Sidney, in the farmhouse where he would spend most of his life. In the summer of 2013 he moved to Golden Living Assisted Living and Nursing Home, then to David Place in David City in May 2017.
Rich attended elementary school at District 64 (Colton) through eighth grade and graduated from Sidney High School at the age of 16 in 1946.
As a youngster, Rich and his friends sold concessions at Krueger’s Lake and swept out the dance hall before dances. During his high school years, he did farm work for his dad, Earl, and continued working on the family farm six miles east of Sidney until Earl’s death in 1996. After Earl’s death, Rich continued to manage the farm until moving into town.
Rich married Lila Mae Richardson from Eagleville, MO on September 16, 1950 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Sidney. They raised two children, Tom and Kristi.
From 1947-1963 Rich served in the Nebraska National Guard in Sidney, achieving the rank of 1st sergeant. He also did some crop adjusting for a number of years.
Rich enjoyed playing town team basketball in Sunol and bowling in Sidney. He was a member of the Elks Club and Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. He thoroughly enjoyed watching college and pro football games and especially enjoyed Husker football and volleyball games.
Survivors include: son Tom Krueger and wife Char of Lincoln, NE; daughter Kristi Griffiths and husband Larry of David City, NE; grandchildren Eric (Melanie) Banks; Desiree (Kendall) Warnock; Sean (Cassie) Krueger; Stacie (Mike) Coatman; Mark Griffiths; Brent (Miranda) Griffiths; brother-in-law Larry (Sandra) Richardson; and six great-grandchildren.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Lila Krueger; parents Earl and Gladys Krueger; in-laws Cleo and Verda Richardson; sister and brother-in-law Earleen and Dick Smith; and sister-in-law Neva Armstrong and husband Rex.
