Robert Howard “Bob” Hedges was born on August 4, 1953 to Leo Edwin and Garnett Alma (Shriner) Hedges in Clarksburg, WV. Robert married Helen P. Alexander on March 3, 1978. To this union, two children were born, Phillip and Alicia. Bob was a loving husband and father and loved the Lord. He had a huge heart and would do anything to help someone in need.
For many years, Bob enjoyed his work as a Senior waste water plant operator in California and Colorado until he retired in 1997. On September 11, 2000, Bob was the blessed recipient of a liver transplant that allowed him to live another 20 years. Bob was able to spend these years doing what he loved: volunteering. He helped with youth football and musical productions at Leyton Public Schools for 12 years. Bob helped coached 6th and 7th grade basketball in Sidney. He also helped with the AWANA ministry, operated the sound system, and was a trustee for the Sidney Evangelical Free Church. Although he was not a grandfather by blood, his volunteer work with youth allowed him to feel like a grandfather to many.
In his spare time, Bob enjoyed playing games like dominos and uno, especially when he was the winner. Bob loved to eat at 50’s themed diners and would do so whenever he had the chance. When the weather was nice, Bob enjoyed fishing, golfing, and hunting for car parts in the junkyard with his neighbors.
Robert is survived by his wife; Helen, his two children; Phillip and Alicia, his sisters; Jane of West Virginia, Garnet of Texas, and Jackie of California, many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents; Leo and Garnet Hedges, and his brother; Chalentz Hedges.
