Rodney E. McConnell, age 87, of Broadwater, NE passed away Thursday, March 14, 2019 in Bridgeport.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, March 22nd in the First Presbyterian Church in Bridgeport with Pastor Jonathan Mark Berosek officiating. Inurnment with Military Honors will follow in the Dalton Cemetery. Memorials may be made in Rodney’s name to the Dalton Legion. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel to sign Rodney’s register book and leave condolences for the family. Rodney Earl McConnell, the son of Earl and Clara (Anderson) McConnell, was born March 19, 1931 in Bridgeport, NE. He lived in Bridgeport until the age of nine when they moved to the farm. He graduated from Bridgeport High School, attended Scott Junior College and University of Nebraska where he played football. Rodney joined the Army and was a camouflage instructor and also played football.
On February 4, 1962, he was united in marriage to Lauretta Esther Reineka in Sidney, NE.
Rodney was a member of the Dalton Presbyterian Church, serving as deacon, trustee and held other offices. He was a Legionnaire for many years, holding the Office of Commander and Sargent of Arms position in the Mintken-Davison American Legion Post # 301. Rodney was also a Boy Scout Leader and worked for The National Farmers Organization and started Mac Irrigation.
Rod is survived by his wife Lauretta, children: Tamara, Earl and wife Shelby, Weston and wife Jenni, Rex, Marie and husband Bert, Teresa, and Esther and husband Tommy: grandchildren; Justen, Daniel, Zach and wife Jessica, Ashten, Brett, Jacob and Kathren: brothers and sisters; Clara May and husband Jerry Groves, Norman and wife Helen McConnell, Kathryn Churchill: sister-in law: Naomi Truax and brother-in-law William and wife Cathy Reineka.
Rodney was preceded in death by his parents: Earl and Clara McConnell: his sister Anna Lou McConnell: grandson: Matthew McConnell, half-brother: Shirley McConnell and one infant son.
