Roy Nelson Huff was born to Ted and Hazel Huff on January 6th, 1931 in Lodgepole, Nebraska. He was the youngest of their four children. Early in life he was often found in the kitchen with Hazel but grew into mischief with his siblings soon enough.
As Roy grew into a young man, he developed a love for music which led to his studies at Hasting College. He was active in the Hastings College Choir. After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree, he spent “two of the most miserable years of life” teaching in Gibbon, NE. He joined the Army in 1952 and spent two years serving his country, and earning a Bronze Star. After his service, Roy went to work for United Airlines in the Reservations department. It was here that he met so many of his lifelong friends. Together, they had many adventures, ski trips, parties and Denver Bronco game celebrations. Roy and Don hosted annual Christmas parties that were legendary!
His family often joked that Roy’s youthful appearance and manner were to be attributed to never marrying or having children of his own. Roy defined the role of the greatest uncle and deeply loved his siblings’ kids. Traveling the world and bringing pieces home to his Nebraska family was a joy for him. His nieces and nephews got to see far-away places through Roy’s photo slide shows that inspired them and created dear memories. Each one has a memory of something Roy did or said to them that they cherish.
Roy lived his adult life in Denver, CO and hosted friends and family often. He was known for his humor and gentle ways. He could always be counted on for airport shuttles, medical appointments for out of towners, hospital visitations should you need them and a welcoming place to stay. If you were one of Roy’s people, friend or family, you were loved. He showed it in his devotion and in his care of you.
Roy lived to be 91 years old. On March 28, 2022, he made an exit from this world on his own terms with everything in order, as was his nature. He is survived by 5 nieces, 4 nephews, 21 great nieces and nephews and 36 great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert (Ted) Nelson Huff and Hazel Ione (Bills) Huff, his sister Nicola Ruth (Huff) Fraass and her husband Don Fraass, brother Robert Charles Huff and his wife Laverna Huff, brother Paul Jesse Huff and his wife Leila Huff, a niece, a great nephew and dear friend Don Wood.
