Sally Lambrecht was born October 12, 1960 in Sidney, NE as the third of four children to Arthur Junior and Marjorie Louise Borcher. Sally grew up on the family farm west of Gurley where she attended Bunker Hill School before graduating from Sidney High School in 1978 as class valedictorian. Sally was active in Girl Scouts and 4-H in the Bunker Hillbillies throughout her youth even winning the “Make it With Wool” Contest at State 4-H. She also was athletic and competed in golf and track during her high school years. Following graduation, Sally attended the University of Wyoming to study Pharmacy where she graduated in 1983. It was during her college years that she grew a great love of Wyoming Athletics to which she followed passionately to this day.
Following graduation, Sally returned to Sidney where she began working at Gaston Pharmacy in downtown Sidney where she worked before the pharmacy moved to Safeway. While being a great pharmacist, Sally’s true talent of brightening everyone’s day was able to shine in this role. No one was a stranger to her, and she was able to touch many lives in this role with her caring and compassion for all.
Sally met the love of her life Rich in 1986 at a fundraising event for Governor Kay Orr. Following this meeting, a date followed to Buffalo Point Steakhouse in Potter where the two hit a deer on the way home from the date. This unlucky encounter ensured Rich a second date and the rest is history. Sally and Rich were united in marriage on April 30, 1988 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and would celebrate almost 34 years of marriage together. While they might have been two, they were one together.
Sally and Rich had one child, Chris, who was born on December 20, 1993 in Sidney. Sally loved watching Chris grow and was there at every step of his youth. Sally was an avid sports mom and easy to find in the stands cheering Chris and the Raiders on. One thing Sally enjoyed thoroughly was her time as basketball mom during Chris’s younger days. Rich helped coach, Sally took on the role of team mom and treated each kid like they were her own. This included being there when someone needed to talk or help do some discipline when needed. To this day many still think of her as their second mom.
Sally battled many health issues over her later years, but none ever seemed to slow her down. She was originally diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007 which she was able to defeat. She was diagnosed again in 2012 with the battle against cancer not being too big again. She completed her last chemo treatment on her 25th wedding anniversary on April 30, 2013 and had been cancer free ever sense. In addition to cancer, Sally was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and was winning that battle as well. No matter the challenge thrown at her, she was able to persevere and get through with a smile on her face.
Sally was active in the local Beta Sigma Phi Chapter and enjoyed the monthly meetings with her group. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Night of Hope and enjoyed talking to many in town about the cancer journey. She was a diehard Wyoming Cowboy fan which she passed on to her family. She loved fall tailgating at War Memorial Stadium and enjoyed listening to games when she couldn’t make it. While Wyoming might not have baseball, she found her baseball fix as a Colorado Rockies fan where she loved games at Coors Field. She also enjoyed traveling with her family and loved going to Alaska. No one was a stranger to her she always had time to talk to those who needed it. She will be missed by all who have crossed her path.
Sally is survived by her husband Rich and fur child Rocky of Sidney; son Chris and significant other Tori of Omaha; sister Susan and husband Steve of Lincoln; brother Chuck of Sidney; brother Scott and wife Penny of Gurley; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Sally was preceded in death by her parents Arthur Junior and Marjorie, her grandparents and several other extended family members.
