Obituary for Troy M Perez

On Friday, November 6, 2020 at 3:00 A.M., twenty-six year old Troy Matthew Perez, a lifetime Sidney resident, passed away at his father’s home after a three year battle with cancer. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, November 14, 2020 at the 4-H Grounds in Sidney, NE. Cremation has been held. A meal and fellowship will follow from 3:30 to 8:00 P.M. at the Lodgepole Valley Youth Camp in Sidney.

Born in Sidney on April 7, 1994, Troy attended Sidney Public Schools until his senior year when he transferred to Potter Dix High School, graduating May 2012. Troy held two real lifelong sporting passions; softball and football. One of these passions led to a two-year position playing for the Kearney Hawks, a professional indoor football team. Other work opportunities include: ranch hand for Sharman Ranch and Renkoski Vegetation Services LLC. Many people will remember Troy best for how much he loved spending time with friends and family, his infectious laugh, and a want to make everyone around him smile and laugh.
Troy Matthew Perez is survived by his son Bryson Matthew Roberts; his mother Christina Ann Perez; his father Timothy Backer and step-mother Joyce Backer; sisters Destiny Ann, Trinity Jolynn, and Charity Anntoinette Backer; Grandparents Clara Jo Garcia and Pete Flores; stepsiblings Tory Stacy, Shawn and Cassidy Hammond; grandparents David and Peggy Backer; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Troy is preceded in death by his Grandmother Anne “Happy” Perez; Great Grandparents Frank and Guadalupe Garcia; Aunt Clara Lynn Morin; Uncle Kenneth Matthew Perez; and Cousin Maria Elena Guadalupe Garcia Hankins; Great Grandparents George and Mary Penick; and Great Grandparents Tony and Velma Backer.
A small private viewing was held on November 6, 2020 at Gehrig-Stitt Funeral Home.
