Obituary for Lewis M. "Lew" Huddleston

Lewis M. "Lew"  Huddleston


Lewis M. Huddleston, age 81 of Sidney, NE passed away Friday, October 5, 2012 at the Sidney Regional Medical Center in Sidney.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, October 10th in the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Sidney with Shawn Huddleston and Rev. David Hall officiating.
Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Grand Prairie Cemetery south of Sidney.
Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Tuesday from 1-7:00P.M.

Lewis Monroe Huddleston, the son of Jeff and Laura (Alexander) Huddleston, was born on September 13, 1931 at Archer City, TX. He graduated from school in Mathis, TX before serving in the United States Navy from 1950-1954 and served on the USS Henry W. Tucker as a boatsman’s mate, and served on missions in both Korea and Red China. Lewis moved to Nebraska in 1954 and went to work in the oil fields near Kimball. He moved to Sidney where he met Joyce A. Sewell. They were married on December 20, 1955 in Sidney. In 1960 Lewis opened the Sinclair station and began raising a family. In 1967 he entered the Insurance Field and began a longtime relationship with Prudential Insurance.
Lewis was very active in the Frank Welch Masonic Lodge, the Order of the Eastern Star, Job’s Daughters, the Westside Church of Christ and helped with many activities in the Sidney Public Schools.
Survivors include his wife: Joyce of Sidney; his children: Lewis Jr. and wife Leslie of Idaho Falls, ID, Cindy Bartling of Sidney and Shawn and wife Deb of Riverton, WY; (2) sisters: Wanda Schilling and Inez Brown both of Mathis, TX; (2) brothers: Bud Huddleston and wife Alice of Kansas City, MO and J.B. Huddleston and wife Sue of Austin, TX; sister-in-law: Dolly Huddleston of Mathis, TX; (3) grandchildren: Erin Huddleston of Sidney, Jodi Lynn Huddleston and Shawn Michael Huddleston of Scottsbluff and numerous extended family member and many friends.
Lewis was preceded in death by his parents; (2) brothers: Jeff and Lonnie Huddleston and (1) sister: Edna Ruth Norwood.
