JAMISON F. “JAY” WILSON

Jaymison F. “Jay” Wilson, age 88 of Sidney, NE passed away Thursday, October 25, 2012 at the Sidney Regional Medical Center Extended Care.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M., Monday, October 29th in the First United Methodist Church in Sidney with Rev. Tom Hyde officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery.
Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Sunday from 1-6:00 P.M.
Memorial contributions may be made in Jay’s name to the First United Methodist Church.

Jamison “Jay” Fred Wilson, the son of Fern L. and Lenna Belle (Jamison) Wilson was born on October 11, 1924 at Mt. Pleasant, IA. The family lived at Milton, IA until 1939 when they moved to Meadow Grove, NE where Jay completed High School and graduated in 1942. Graduation day Jay and two friends left Meadow Grove to seek employment. After several temporary jobs along the route they went to work at Seattle Tacoma Shipbuilding Corp where he worked until enlisting in the United States Navy in April of 1943. He served aboard the USS Prichett DD 561, participating in all action in the Pacific from the invasion of Enewetak until the war was over. The ship received many awards and citations including the Presidential Unit Citation. After his discharge in 1946, Jay worked at Meadow Grove a short while before going to Atkinson, NE to work for Galyen Motors. He later moved to Council Bluffs, IA and worked for the Postal Transportation Service. On November 23, 1950 Jay married Mary Alice Sasse at Gordon, NE. Two children were born to this union, Julie Ann and Mary Jeanne. Following graduation from Creighton University School of Pharmacy, the family moved to Sidney where he worked for Janda-Tobin Drug, later becoming a partner, co-owner and eventually sole owner of Wilson-Tobin Drug.
Mary Wilson died in 1976 and on March 23, 1984, Jay married Rosalie Ann Marshall in Sidney. They continued living in Sidney until 1997 when they began spending winters in Arizona.
Jay was a Registered Pharmacist for over more than fifty years, a life-long Methodist, served on all commissions and as Chairman of the Executive Board and was a member of the Methodist Men. Jay was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinal Baseball Fan and was able to attend games in St. Louis from the early 1930s to the 1950s and later in attended ballgames in Denver. He was a longtime bowler beginning league bowling in 1954 and continued until 1998, receiving many league and tournament awards.
Survivors include his wife: Rosalie of Sidney; (2) daughters: Julie Kucera and husband William of Gering and Mary Jeanne Showers and husband Donn of Lakewood, CA; (1) sister: Kay Berg of Columbus, NE; (1) brother: William Wilson and wife Rebeccah of Wayne, NE; (3) grandchildren: Jacob Showers and Jennifer and Matthew Kucera.
Jay was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife: Mary, (1) sister: Evelyn Hamley and brothers-in-law: Larry Berg and Ben Hamley.
