Elmer L. "Butch"  Schubarth
Elmer L. “Butch” Schubarth, age 81 of rural Potter, NE passed away Sunday evening, January 6, 2013 at the Sidney Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, January 12th in the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church north of Potter with Pastor Ted Bourret officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Paul’s Cemetery. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Friday from 1-6:00 P.M., with family present from 5-6:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Butch’s name to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or the Potter Rescue Unit.

Elmer Lester “Butch” Schubarth, the youngest of seven children of Arthur Otto and Lydia Concordia (Steffens) Schubarth, was born on November 25, 1931 at home in rural Cheyenne County, NE. Butch graduated from Potter High School in 1949 and returned to the run the family farm and continued his life passion until his death. Several of his nephews would work for him during the farming season and carry fond memories of the farm.
Butch was a faithful member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Potter all his life and served on many boards, taught Sunday School, was involved in Walther League and Lutheran Layman’s League. He enjoyed music and sang in the church choir and also in the male quartet in the community. Butch played basketball and was the pitcher of the Baseball team which was started his Senior year to replace Track as only five boys reported to participate. He continued his baseball career by playing on the Bunker Hill team for many years.
Survivors include (1) sister: Edna Hilpert of Potter, (20) nieces and nephews, (47) great-nieces and nephews, several great-great-nieces and nephews and (1) great-great-great-niece and (1) great-great-great-nephew, his caregiver: Roxie McKillip and several extended family members.
Butch was preceded in death by his parents, (3) brothers: George, Walt and Rudy and (2) sisters: Viola Hilpert and Hilda Jacobs and numerous extended family members.
