My Big Brother

My big brother Rod and I shared a unique story. He is my older brother by eleven years. I do remember him when I was growing up, but always as the quiet one. He was always listening and didn't need to say much. When he was in the mood to talk he was very passionate about his beliefs. The best part of growing up with him is that we shared our birthdays. Rod was born on Friday, July 13th eleven years before I was born: on Friday, July 13th! Quite a feat for our parents were ouldn't you say!! Mom asked Rod if he minded if I was born on his birthday and he said that would be okay. We always celebrated together and invited family and neighbors to join in. Our garage was always filled with lots of food and card tables and we would spill out onto the patio and out into our very large backyard. It never gets old telling people about my Birthday twin and how Friday the 13th is our lucky day. I have many great memories over the years and I will treasure them as I have lost my big brother far too soon.
