My dad

Sooo many stories. How do you sum up almost 36 years with your dad?!

When I was little he would watch my "concerts"; I would put on a vinyl record and I would stand on the footstool and crank the music up LOUD and sing my heart out.     I would also turn it up a bit louder when it was just dad, he loved his music as much as I did!    Even now our musical tastes are similar, I was blessed to be able to take him to Red Rocks a few years back so he could rock out to his favorite, The Steve Miller Band.  It was such a great time.

We enjoyed time at Lake McConaughy together. As a kid he took me night fishing there.  We made a bed in the back of our small van and set our poles out.  I have a double hook on mine and in the middle of the night I caught 2 fish at once!  I was kind of scared and squemish but dad was so excited and he got me excited about it too.  Alot of my fondest memories were camping out in the back of the pick up at many Western Nebraska lakes.    I am grateful to have been able to see my dad and spend time with us at the lake one last time this last Labor Day weekend.

I enjoyed a road trip to Lincoln with my dad when I was a teenager.  He was so easy to hang out with.  He would listen to my stories, he never judged me... we both shared a bit of a wild side.  I have admired his faith in God and his strength through his 18+ years of sobriety. He was a great example to my husband and me as to what it takes to make a successful long term recovery.    He truly knew the meaning of living " one day at a time".

I will miss being able to call him and inviting him to Denver or Lincoln to share time together for holidays.  I will miss his laugh and his slow to speak ways.  My grief is made a little easier knowing that he is basking in the glory of God in Heaven.

I love you dad!!
