LARRY D. SHELLEY

Larry D. Shelley, age 72 of Sidney, NE passed away, Monday, December 11, 2017. Memorial graveside services with Military Honors will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, December 15th in the Greenwood Cemetery with Pastors Dave Hall and Leon “Bud” Gillespie officiating. Cremation has been held. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Thursday to sign Larry’s register book and leave condolences for the family. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in care of the family for future designation. Gehrig-Stitt Chapel & Cremation Service, LLC is in charge of Larry’s care and funeral arrangements.
Larry was born May 31, 1945 in Seattle, WA. The family moved around a few places in Washington, Illinois and South Carolina. In the summer of 1959, Larry came to Dalton to live with his cousins, Howard and Lois Reimers’ family. He graduated from Dalton High School in 1963. He attended the University of Nebraska and The Art Institute of Colorado. He was drafted into the US Army and inducted on 11.19.68 as a Private 1st Class. He was in the Big Red 1 Battalion, 5th Artillery – 1st Infantry – Mobile Artillery for approx. nine months and the 199th Brigade for the remainder of his tour in Viet Nam. He was honorably discharged on 6-24-70. After he was discharged he farmed and ranched alongside his brother, Dorwin, and had various other jobs. He married Kay Gregory in Dalton NE on January 28, 1977. They have 2 children, Brittney Moore (Matthew) and Dustin (Shelby), grandchildren, McKenzie and Kalynn Moore. Larry felt his greatest accomplishments were his wonderful children, their spouses, his granddaughters and…his 3 holes-in-one.
Survivors include his mother, Donna Marie McQueen of Sidney NE, his wife, children and grandchildren, all of Sidney, siblings: Lynda Sadis of Mill Creek, WA, Lanny Shelley (Theresa) of Whidbey Island, WA, AnnaLee Gruber (Chad) of Longview WA, Adalia McGuire (Gary) of Dalton NE; Katholene Fangmeier (Charles) of Hebron NE; Annabell Rushman (Russell); and Jane Reimers, all of Dalton NE, sister-in-law, Barb Reimers of Dalton NE; mother-in-law: Virginia Kelley (Miller) of Sterling, CO and brother-in-law, Robert Gregory (Jackie) of Axtell NE and numerous nieces and nephews. Larry was preceded in death by his father, Clarence, step-father Nels McQueen, Nebraska parents Howard and Lois Reimers, John Heizer and brothers, Gary Shelley and Dorwin Reimers.
