Dennis was my first and best childhood friend. We lived in Surrey,ND and he was my neighbor. We spent a lot of time together along with my younger brother John. One story I remember is Dennis chasing after my younger brother, who was a bit of a pest at the time. He was 6 years younger a little quicker and Dennis was so mad because he couldn't catch John.
As boys, we pulled a lot of pranks especially Halloween, and we will leave it at that :). In the winter, there was a farmer that had a spot on his land that would accumulate with water so when it froze it made a nice place for us to skate. Dennis(known as Jake to me) a group of other guys and myself would clear it off and the girls would bring the treats and we would enjoy time skating with everyone.

In the summer time, there were several government grain bins near by and we would play hide and seek. We spent many hours doing this during the summer.

Jake and I shared birthdays in September - we were 5 days apart. Jake would call me just before my birthday every year and called me just before my birthday this past September, 2019. I would call Jake on his birthday and we did this for many many years.

Both Joyce, my wife, and I enjoyed listening to Jake in his deep voice and share stories. We had chance to visit him in Nebraska a few years ago on our way to Nevada. We enjoyed our visit.

I will miss my treasured, childhood friend. My thoughts and prayers are with you all and thank Laura for letting me know. Warren R. Brey

Attached are a couple of pictures I found in my childhood album. First picture is me, my brother John and Jake. The 2nd picture is me, Gail (Jake's sister), and Jake.
