It's hard to imagine a world without Grandpa; how he could keep you captivated with his stories, and be just as captivated by yours, his hugs that seemed to hug your soul every time, or that giant smile and laugh that will stay with me forever. But even though this world seems darker without him, I'm surrounded by the light he leaves for us. As we gathered to celebrate the life of an amazing man...--seeing brothers and sisters, children, grandchildren, and great grand children all hugging, laughing, and crying together, my heart couldn't help smiling at the world he helped create. (And knowing how Grandpa loved having everyone together and loved a good laugh, this was probably his way of saying we were overdue for a family reunion.) Still, it's hard to imagine a world without Grandpa. If ever there was a man dedicated to his family, his Church, and his community, it was him. He taught without teaching; inspired and showed us how to live simply by the values he lived his life. I will miss every little thing about him that made him everything to me: coffee and Oreos while trying to solve the world's problems...or at least Peetz's, sitting in the car talking baseball, and those bear hugs, which never seemed to say, “goodbye”, but “I love you and I'll see you soon.” To the man who was a pillar for everything I strive to become, just remember, it isn't goodbye, It's just see you later.
